ORLAND PARK, IL — Olympic gold medalist and Chicagoland native Kendall Coyne Schofield will lead the parade as grand marshal at the Red, White & Blue BBQ Fest and Parade on Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at Centennial Park West, 15609 Park Station Blvd, the Village announced.
A Carl Sandburg High School alum and captain of the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s (PWHL) Minnesota Frost, Coyne Schofield is a standout figure in women’s hockey. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, seven-time world champion and two-time Walter Cup champion, she is recognized for her leadership, advocacy and excellence throughout her career.
“We are honored to welcome Kendall Coyne Schofield back to the area as this year’s Grand Marshal,” said Mayor Jim Dodge. “Her achievement on the international stage at the Olympics and here at home, make her an outstanding representative of our region and our country.”
In 2019, Coyne Schofield made history as the first woman to compete in the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. She was also awarded the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2016 as the top player in women’s college hockey.
Coyne Schofield’s appearance is one of several highlights planned for the celebration. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from Jillian Road and Park Station Boulevard and travels along Park Station Boulevard to Centennial Park West. Free children's activities will follow the parade at Centennial Park West until 1 p.m. Live music entertainment will be from 2-9 p.m. Guests can enjoy a variety of rib tastings from 18 amateur rib cook-off contestants for $1 per sample/rib starting at 3:30 p.m. Food and drink vendors will also be on-site The evening closing ceremony and pyro-musical fireworks show is scheduled from 9:15 to 9:30 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to attend this free event as the Village celebrates community, patriotism and the holiday weekend.
