He was born in Berwyn, raised in Hickory Hills, lived in Orland Park, and was a resident of Lockport for the past 20 years, family said.

He was "a true outdoorsman he loved fishing, camping, ATVing, and boating," according to his obituary. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry and tinkering with all his tools. He was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan and enjoyed watching hockey and football, family wrote.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Retired Firefighter John Teninty on August 21," the district shared on social media. "John proudly wore the badge for 27 years at Orland Fire Protection District."

Teninty is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Lisa (nee Biros) Teninty; his son, Steven Teninty; his sisters, Kathy (Shaun) Duffy, Jennifer (Dave) Egan, and Jeanne (Rich) Zaper; two brothers in law, Wayne (Carrie) Biros, and Michael (Nora) Biros; his faithful companions his dogs, Howie and Tottie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Paws to Care in John's name would be greatly appreciated.

Cremation rites have been addressed. Memorial visitation will be held in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9th St. (159th St.) Lockport, on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. until eulogies shared at 2 p.m. by friends and family.

The Orland Fire Protection District will have a walk-through during the services to honor Teninty and his years of service. Those seeking to participate should arrive at 1:15 p.m. for a 1:45 p.m. step-off time.
