A library card is one of the most valuable school supplies you can have! This September, the Orland Park Public Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-up Month and reminding residents that a library card provides free access to books, movies, music, digital resources, educational tools, and so much more. This year's National Library Card Sign-up Month theme, "A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes," celebrates all the ways a library card connects people with resources, opportunities, and discoveries. To celebrate, the Orland Park Public Library is inviting patrons to participate in the Fill-a-Bag Challenge for a chance to win exciting musical prizes.

From Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Wednesday, Sept. 30, patrons can pick up a lime green library bag at the Patron Services Desk in the lobby. Fill the bag with eligible library materials, bring it to the checkout desk, and receive one entry into the prize drawing after checking out the items inside. The more you explore the library's collection, the more you'll discover! Fill your bag with novels, children's books, movies, music, video games, and other eligible materials to find your next great adventure. Prize winners will be selected and contacted on or about Thursday, Oct. 15.

Getting a library card is now easier than ever! Residents can receive an Orland Park Public Library card with just one form of ID. Residents who live within the boundaries of incorporated Orland Park simply need to bring a valid driver's license or state ID showing their current Orland Park address to begin checking out materials right away.

If a driver's license or state ID does not show a current Orland Park address, residents may provide a second document showing their Village of Orland Park address, such as:

Library card applications must be completed and signed in person and verified by library staff. Library cards are valid for five years from the date of issuance.

Children ages 14 and older living with a parent or legal guardian may use the parent's or legal guardian's proof of residence until they obtain qualifying proof of residency in their own name. Library cards will be issued to children age 13 and under who reside within the incorporated boundaries of the Village of Orland Park with the signature of a parent or legal guardian.

Stop by the Orland Park Public Library this September, grab a bag, fill it with your next great reads and discoveries, and celebrate everything you can do with a library card!
