According to police, a customer was pumping gas at the Shell station when a suspect attempted an armed holdup. In response, the customer—an Illinois Concealed Carry License holder—fired their gun, striking the suspect, police said. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police did not disclose the sex of either person involved. Video shared from the scene depicts the customer as a man. The video—time-stamped as Sept. 15, 7:51 a.m., shows the suspect approach the man as he is pumping gas. Some words are exchanged before the suspect is seen drawing a gun and pointing it at the customer. The man then quickly draws a gun from inside the back of his waistband and fires it at the suspect. The suspect is seen flying backward from the impact, before scurrying to his feet and attempting to flee the scene.

There is no threat to the public at this time, police said Tuesday morning.

The customer is cooperating with police, and the investigation is ongoing. Additional updates will be shared as information becomes available, police said.
