Fellowship Trained Shoulder & Elbow Expert Joins Ingalls Advanced Orthopedic Institute

Ingalls is pleased to welcome orthopedic surgeon Phillip T. Nigro, M.D., to its medical staff. Specializing in the treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions, he is the newest physician to join the Ingalls Advanced Orthopedic Institute.

Dr. Nigro is a partner with Bone and Joint Physicians, one of the largest orthopedic surgery and sports medicine practices in the South Suburbs, with offices in Flossmoor, Oak Lawn, Orland Park, and Calumet City. He is on staff at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

Dr. Nigro has a special interest in treating shoulder and elbow arthritis, tendon tears and sports injuries. His impressive credentials include a shoulder & elbow fellowship at the Florida Orthopedic Institute, where he performed numerous surgeries alongside nationally renowned orthopedic surgeon Mark Frankle, M.D. His fellowship also provided him with specialty training in complex shoulder and elbow replacement, including reverse shoulder replacement, sports surgery, and expertise in arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair.

In addition to his shoulder & elbow fellowship, Dr. Nigro completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, and performed an orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts Affiliated Hospitals in Boston, MA. He also served as team physician for various sports teams during his residency, including Major League Lacrosse and women’s soccer.

Dr. Nigro grew up in Wheaton, IL, and he is delighted to return to the area to practice medicine. As a participating physician in the Ingalls Sports Network, Dr. Nigro joins a select group of orthopedic surgeons who have partnered with Ingalls to ensure evaluation when it is needed most – within 24-48 hours of an injury.
