Benz Driver Wanted for Stiffing Dealer on Repairs: Police

Orland Park detective says man told him, "I don't have the money."

An arrest warrant was issued for a Chicago man who allegedly dodged a bill for repairs on his Mercedes Benz.

Police said Lavelle McGill, who’s 61, brought his car into Mercedes Benz of Orland Park, 8430 W. 159th St., Orland Park, for repairs last November.

When the repairs were completed, the detective said McGill arranged for porters to drop the car off at his home at 85th Street and Cottage Grove in January.

McGill attempted to pay bill for $4,501 with his debit card, but there were insufficient funds in his account. He told the porters to follow him in his newly repaired Mercedes Benz to the bank, but never showed up, the detective said.

“So they gave him the car,” Cook County Judge Peter Felice asked.

The detective said he has talked to McGill, who agreed to turn himself in March 8, but he never came to the police station. He’s also been to McGill’s address and spoken to his mother, but she won’t give out any information of her son’s whereabouts.

“He says he doesn’t have the money,” the detective said.

Judge Felice issued an arrest warrant for $45,000.
