Man Found Dead In Orland Park Pond Shot Himself: Police
Police said the 25-year-old died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound before his body was found floating in an Orland Park pond.
ORLAND PARK, IL — A man found dead in a pond near 157th Street and 76th Avenue Friday morning suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a preliminary investigation by Orland Park Police. Officers responded to the pond at 7:52 a.m. after receiving a call from a person who spotted the man's body floating along the shore. A neighbor told Patch a man walking his dog had discovered the body floating face up in the pond.
The name of the victim, described only as a 25-year-old Orland Park resident, is being withheld pending notification of family, police said.
Police said a gun was recovered from the scene and there was “no threat to public safety.”

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence surrounding the pond early Friday. Police said the Orland Fire Protection District provided water search and rescue personnel to recover the body from the water.
The final manner and cause of death will be determined by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office following an autopsy, Orland Park Police Cmdr. Tony Farrell said in a statement. The medical examiner's office said the autopsy would not take place on Friday.
