Business Comings & Goings: Plaza Cafe in Orland Closes Wednesday
A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.

Plaza Café will become the latest business to depart Orland Plaza when it closes its doors at 143rd Street and LaGrange Road at the end of business on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Owner Tom Demacopoulos said he was “99 percent certain” the café would relocate.
Pompei Little Italy Grand Opening
Today’s the day Pompei Little Italy is having its grand opening in the former R.C. Mulligan’s location at the Riviera Country Club and Sports Center at 8801 W. 143rd St. in Orland Park. For information and hours, call 708-349-1100.

Orland Mall Demolition
Work should begin today on the demolition of the former movie theaters at 49 Orland Square Dr. at , which will be the site of a Dave & Buster’s adult arcade, bar and restaurant sometime next year.
The mall also started repaving the parking lot last week as part of its renovation.

Francesca’s Collections
Francesca’s Collections had its grand opening on Saturday in their new location in the lower level Macy’s Court at Orland Square Mall.
Cody Simpson to Visit Orland Square
Atlantic recording artist Cody Simpson will perform at Orland Square Mall on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Australian pop sensation’s “Coast to Coast Tour.” His debut album, On My Mind, is slated to arrive in stores and at all digital retailers on Sept. 20.
Simpson will be onstage starting at 6:30 p.m. to perform four songs. He will sign autographs only for fans who pre-purchase his CD.
Fans will need wristbands to see Simpson and can start lining up at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in the parking lot between JCPenney and Sears on the lower level.
Once fans receive their wristbands, they will be asked to leave and come back to the event area at 5:30 p.m., when they will be allowed to enter the event area. No one will be allowed to line up or enter the event area before 5:30 p.m. Individuals without a wristband will not be permitted in the event space.
New Wendy’s Now Open in Orland
A new Wendy’s restaurant has opened in the former Boston Market at 7360 W. 159th St. in Orland Park. It is the second Wendy’s in Orland Park and is around the corner from the site of a Wendy’s that was closed years ago and converted into a bank. The phone number is (708) 444-0565.
Tinley Cruise Nights to End
The popular classic car cruise night on Oak Park Avenue in downtown Tinley Park is scheduled to end after this Tuesday's get-together.
Free Gyros on Tuesday
Kronos, the purveyor of meat and other foods to many Greek restaurants in the Southland, is again offering free gyros on Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. You have to download a coupon and indicate the restaurant you will be visiting for your free sandwich.
Participating restaurants can be found at the Kronos website, but they include Baby’s Steak & Lemonade in Orland Park and Cyprus in Tinley Park.
