Round 1 goes to Patrick Brutus, candidate for the Illinois 1st Congressional District seat in the upcoming Democratic March 2016 primary election. This political race is one of the nine most anticipated according to Politico.[1]
Brutus’ slate of appearances on Saturday January 9, 2016 included the first candidates forum of the campaign season hosted by Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, an appearance on WIIT 88.9 FM with Dough Henson, host of the “More than a Rapper Show” and ending with a speech at the Haitian Unity Day in Evanston, IL celebrating the 212th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Haiti; the world’s first free Black Republic in the world.
On Tuesday January 12 he will headline the Haitian-American Professional Network’s Haiti earthquake memorial prayer breakfast at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.[2] Patrick Brutus contends, “The Democratic Machine has long ignored it’s real base of constituents and too comfortably out of touch; relying far too long on slating political incumbents like Bobby Rush and Howard Brookins.” Both Rush and Brookins were present at the inaugural candidates’ forum. Brookins unsurprisingly shunned Brutus for being a “rookie” while Rush romanticized his most recent years of service.
The day has come for Democratic voters to take over the machine and vote courageously on March 15, 2016. “We are taking our campaign straight to the voters. Voters who overwhelmingly want to hear from the only candidate in this race not responsible for either the past or present failures playing out in our communities today. Voters today are especially attentive about our future vision and goals for the entire District.”
