Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School Spelling Bee Winners

Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School students participated in the SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee on Friday, January 22, 2021.

After more than 160 words of amazing spelling, 7th grader Luke Rost won the Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School Spelling Bee by correctly spelling the word “throng”. The runner up was 8th grader Nathan San Gabriel. Students competed in their homerooms and the winners participated in either the upper grades level (4-8) or the primary grade level (1-3). The winner of the primary level spelling bee was 3rd grader Kyle San Gabriel and runner up was 2nd grader Andrew Lopez. As part of the Scripps’ National Spelling Bee Program, Rost will advance to the 11th Annual ISC SCRIPPS Spelling Bee in March, 2021. “I am pleased that this year’s spelling bee competition was once again a great success,” said Marie Iannotta, coordinator. “I am proud of all the students who participated as they did a great job.” As an added feature this year, both spelling bee levels were streamed on Facebook Live for Cardinal Bernardin families to watch at home due to COVID-19 precautions.
