Carl Sandburg High School Teacher Chris Komer Honored with TEAI Teacher of the Year Award
Longtime Sandburg teacher honored October 23 in Normal, IL

Consolidated High School District 230 and Carl Sandburg High School are proud to announce that technology education teacher Chris Komer has been selected for the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award by the Technology Education Association of Illinois (TEAI).
The TEAI Teacher of the Year Award recognizes outstanding technology educators who continuously upgrade classroom curricula, remain active in professional organizations, maintain positive relationships across their school communities, and demonstrate a minimum of five years of dedicated teaching experience.
A mainstay at Carl Sandburg High School since 2005, Komer typically manages 5 to 6 course preparations per year across subjects including CAD, Engineering, and Electronics. Beyond his daily instruction, he works closely with Moraine Valley Community College to ensure students can earn dual credits and industry certifications. Komer is also active in student and professional organizations, participating in TEAI and SkillsUSA, and serving in leadership roles as President and Vice President for the Illinois Design Educators Association (IDEA).
