ORLAND PARK, IL -- An Orland Park woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant after police went to her home on for a well being check, prosecutors said in court.
Denita Veece, 37, wearing a Jonathan Toews Blackhawks jersey, appeared before Cook County Judge Matthew Carmody on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued Jan. 13 for failing to appear in court on a criminal damage to property charge.
Orland Park police went to Veece’s home in the 15200 block of El Camino Real on Jan. 29 for a well-being check, knowing that she was also wanted on a warrant. When Veece answered the door, she was arrested, the prosecutor said.

When being booked at the Orland Park police station, the prosecutor said several gun wrappers fell out of her right sock. According to police, the gum wrappers contained 1 gram of what later tested positive for cocaine.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Veece lives with her fiance and that other members of her family were in court. He asked the judge to consider an I-bond and electronic home monitoring.
“I have a concern of the defendant showing up in court,” Judge Carmody said.
Veece was released on a $50,000 I-bond for the drug charge, and a $10,000 I-bond for the misdemeanor property damage case. The judge also ordered random drug testing while Veece’s cases are pending.
Veece’s next court hearing is Feb. 24 in Bridgeview.
