Cub Scouts "Pack Night" Benefitting Children with Cancer
Cub Scout Pack 101 members Eddie Prendiville, (age 8), and his older brother Jamie, (age 10) during the toy donation drop-off.
The Cub Scout promise states, “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight and to obey the Scout Law. The Cub Scout Pack 101 hosted a Christmas Party in Frankfort where they learned about all the amazing work the Treasure Chest Foundation does for children and teens fighting cancer. Ten-year-old Cub Scout Jamie Prendiville said, “We went to Jacks Cupcake and Lemonade Stand in Frankfort and we learned about the Treasure Chest Foundation.” Eddie (age 8), Jamie’s younger brother said, “When I was sick in the hospital a nurse gave me a toy, this made me feel good.” The Cub Scouts could relate and wanted to help. The boys collected over 100 toys that will comfort children fighting cancer in 49 children’s cancer treatment centers across the nation including Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.
“The Treasure Chest Foundation is especially grateful to Boy Scout Pack 101 for their gifts,” said Treasure Chest Foundation CEO and Founder Colleen Kisel. “Not only do we appreciate the boys’ hard work, but we are so happy to be a part of this wonderful organization which is dedicated to making the world a better place. The Treasure Chest Foundation is a better place because of Boy Scout Pack 101.”
The not-for-profit Treasure Chest Foundation now supports more than 9,300 children and teens each month who are diagnosed with cancer by providing a toy or gift card in 49 hospitals nationwide. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. CEO Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Colleen discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain. Martin celebrated his 22nd anniversary of remission from the disease in 2015.
