ORLAND PARK, IL — A school custodian is accused of sexually abusing a young girl during an after-school program at a Dist. 135 elementary school in Orland Park. David Kalas, 60, of Matteson, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Kalas was ordered held without bail.

The alleged abuse took place on Nov. 22, during an after-school care program at Center Elementary School, 9407 W. 151st St., Orland Park. According to the charges, Kalas was cleaning the school corridor when the child went to use the bathroom. Surveillance video showed the custodian following the girl into the bathroom, the prosecutor said.

Unaware that she was being followed, the child went into a stall and locked the door, the prosecutor said. When she came out of the stall, the prosecutor said Kalas was inside the bathroom sweeping the floor. Kalas allegedly made physical contact with the child. She later told her parents what happened. Her parents told school administrators.
