Disabled Cable Installer Filched $1,800 Worth of Pillows, Clothes & Cosmetics: Cops

Prosecutor said Worth man exceeded new felony theft threshold of $1,000.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- A Worth man allegedly walked out of the Orland Square Sears’ store with a cart full of stolen merchandise exceeding the new, felony retail theft bar of $1,000, prosecutors said.

According to the charges, Joseph Moore, 41, was spotted inside the Sears store around 6 p.m. Dec. 24, allegedly filling a cart with clothing and cosmetics.Moore placed two pillows he had purchased on top of the pilfered merchandise and walked out of the store.

The value of the merchandise was $1,849. Moore made admissions to police, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Moore is a former cable installer and is now on disability. He recently had his heels shaved.

“This makes him go shoplifting?” Cook County Judge Peter Felice asked.

“Maybe if you’re desperate and need money,” the assistant public defender said.

Bail was set at $10,000. Moore’s next court date is Jan. 10.
