District 230 Board of Education earns Governance Recognition
One of just 45 districts to earn recognition

The Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education has been recognized for its exceptional governance practices by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB). District 230 was one of 45 Illinois school districts to earn the School Board Governance Recognition for their effective governance and commitment to obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively govern the District.
The School Board Governance Recognition program is designed to showcase how good governance creates a positive impact on students, staff, and the entire district community. It provides an opportunity for districts to tell their story about programs and projects that are improving outcomes in their local school districts and offers board members a chance to highlight how continuous learning by board members results in improved governance for the board of education and positive outcomes for the district. Boards of education that meet the necessary requirements are recognized for the two-year honorary distinction.
District 230 Board of Education President Melissa Gracias said, “I am so proud of the work being done by the Board of Education as we are constantly working to improve the District for our students and for the entire community. As Board members, we are passionate about education and providing the best opportunities for all students both inside and outside of the classroom. I applaud our staff and students for being innovative and empathetic and for being leaders in our communities. To be recognized for those efforts by the IASB is rewarding, and it’s encouraging to know we are on the right path.”
The application process involved demonstrating efforts in areas such as:
- Communicating our mission, vision and goals to stakeholders
- Engaging in two-way communication with stakeholders
- Conducting regular policy reviews and maintaining a current, updated policy manual
- Monitoring progress toward district ends (mission, vision and goals) with the use of data
- Implementing an orientation process for newly seated board members
- Collectively and individually taking responsibility for continuous learning and development as a board
- Positively impacting outcomes for students and improving organizational effectiveness
“Earning the IASB School Board Governance Recognition designation is a point of pride for our district and communities, as it shows our dedication to maintaining a high-quality experience for our students and families,” Gracias added.
There will be a formal presentation of this recognition to the District 230 Board at the Fall South Cook Division Meeting and acknowledged at the Joint Annual Conference in November.
