District 230 board seeks new member after resignation

Applications due December 22, 2023

Melissa Gracias, who served on the Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education since 2013, resigned from her post on November 30.

Gracias, who served as the president of the School Board, resigned and wished continued success to the students and staff of District 230 saying, “I have truly enjoyed being a part of the 230 family.”

In addition to serving as Board president, Gracias served as the chair of the Board’s Student Services Committee. She also served as the District’s Scope Representative, and as the delegate for the District at the Illinois Association of School Boards.

“Melissa provided distinguished service for 10 years,” said District 230 Superintendent Dr. Robert Nolting. “It has been a privilege to serve with her, and she will be missed. On behalf of the entire district, we wish her well.”

The board will choose a replacement to serve until the next election in April 2025. Whoever is selected will serve out the remaining months on Gracias’s term.

The school board must pick a replacement by January 29, 2024. Those interested in being considered may download an application from the District 230 website (www.d230.org/BOEApplication) or pick up an application packet from Clerk of the Board Lisa Pindelski, who works in the District Office located at 15100 S. 94th Ave., Orland Park.

To be eligible to serve on the school board an individual must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen, have lived in the school district for at least one year, be registered to vote and have no criminal record.

Applications to fill the vacancy must be received by no later than 4pm on December 22. The school board may hold a special meeting in January, during which the board may interview candidates for the vacancy in closed session. A candidate will be appointed at the January 25, 2024, Board meeting.
