Driver Was Slumped Over Wheel Before Fatal LaGrange Road Crash: Police

Witnesses told police the fatal victim of a crash in Orland Park on Saturday was slumped over the wheel before her car flipped over.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- The Tinley Park woman who was killed in a two-car crash on LaGrange Road near Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon was slumped over the wheel when her car slammed into another at a red light and flipped over, witnesses told police. Brittany Devoe, 27 was pronounced dead shortly after the crash at 1:18 p.m., police said.

Fire crews from Mokena and Tinley Park were the first to respond to the scene in the southbound lanes of LaGrange and found a Chevrolet Malibu upside down on its roof, according to Orland Park police. The crews were able to extricate the lone occupant of the Malibu, who was seat belted inside the vehicle according to police.

An investigation indicates the Malibu crashed into a Ford Fusion at a red light. The driver of the Fusion was unharmed, police said.

Devoe's death was not caused by the crash, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. A final cause and determination regarding the death is pending a toxicology report.
