ORLAND PARK, IL — More than $5,000 was raised in less than 24 hours after a GoFundMe was set up to help the family of Evelyn Thomas, the 5-year-old Orland Park girl who was killed in a crash at 151st and Harlem last week. In addition to the heartbreak of losing a loved one at such a young age, the family is also dealing with the financial ramifications of having to plan a funeral and the medical expenses that come with the care of Evie's 6-year-old sister Sylvi, who was injured in the crash.

Sylvi is still in the hospital as of Monday, according to the GoFundMe description, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Evie and Sylvi were both passengers in a car that was struck by an SUV at the busy three-way intersection the night of Jan. 23.
