Orland School District 135 is inviting area adults to attend a three-part series on Internet Safety. The first of the three sessions will take place on Thursday, October 20 in The Learning Center in the District 135 Administration Offices, (15100 S. 94th Avenue in Orland Park) beginning at 7:00 p.m. The topic of the first session will include information on anti-virus software, browsers, SSL attacks, firewalls, spy-ware, filtering and monitoring. The two subsequent sessions are scheduled for April 10 and April 24.
When asked why this series is being held, Century Jr. High Media Specialist Lisa Talbert notes, "We've all seen news reports related to issues of Internet safety, such as cyberbullying causing suicide, online predators on Facebook, inappropriate text messages, and identify theft. These are very timely, relevant issues causing concern for parents. Internet safety lessons are taught in school, which benefits students, but the Media Specialists and Curriculum Department felt it was incredibly important to also involve parents in the fight to keep students safe."
