As a result of distribution conflicts with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Orland Township has not received its allotted shipment of children's flu shots. Because of the snafu, the planned free flu shot clinic for Saturday, Oct. 23 has been cancelled.
The free flu shot clinic will be rescheduled for a later date. That date has not yet been set but will be announced on the Orland Township website, www.orlandtwp.org.
"I'm very disappointed in the state's inability to deliver the vaccine in a timely manner to Township Health Clinics, leaving numerous children susceptible to the flu virus this season," Supervisor Paul O'Grady said. "I am hopeful that the state can rectify this delay so we can get our children vaccinated and out of harm's way."
The scheduled adult flu shot clinic dates, however, remain unaffected. The remaining dates include: Tuesday, Oct. 26, and Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Orland Township Activity Center. The shots will be offered on those dates from 4:30-7 p.m. Flu shots will also be offered at St. Stephen, Deacon & Martyr, in Tinley Park on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The price of the adult flu shot is $20 for residents between the ages of 19 and 64. For residents 65 years of age and older, the flu shot is covered by Medicare Part B, if a Medicare card is presented. Proof of residency is also required to receive the shot.
