Orland Township Reschedules Children's Flu Shot Clinic

Orland Township is hosting a rescheduled children's flu shot clinic on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4-7 p.m. in the Orland Township Activity Center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave.

A limited amount of children's vaccines are available, free of charge, for children 6 months to 18 years of age. Adult vaccines are also available at the clinic for residents 19 and older for a fee of $20. Residents with Medicare Part B may also receive a flu shot, free of charge, by presenting their Medicare card. Proof of residency is required.

The children's clinic, originally scheduled for Oct. 23, was unable to take place because of distribution problems within the Department of Public Health. Despite the conflict, a limited amount of vaccines are in stock and ready to be administered to Orland Township residents.

Supervisor Paul O'Grady, when given the news about the state's vaccine predicament, was disappointed that township residents would be inconvenienced. However, because of the level of importance Orland Township puts its residents' health at, both O'Grady and Health Services Coordinator Nancy Schoeneman kept in contact with the Department of Public Health, encouraging Orland Township's children's flu shot delivery.

"Distribution conflicts occur everyday around the country but when it comes to the health of our residents, it's not an excuse," said O'Grady. "I'm pleased to announce that we have received a limited supply of children's vaccines and they will be made available at this upcoming clinic. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience it may have caused."

After 12 flu shot clinics throughout the month of October, the upcoming date will be the final clinic hosted by Orland Township in 2010.
