Field Trips Canceled At D230 Schools, E-learning Days Possible

Coronavirus concerns have led to the cancellation of all extracurricular events at District 230 schools through the end of Spring Break.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Extended overnight travel, field trips and all co-curriculars have been canceled at Consolidated High School District 230 schools until the end of Spring Break on Sunday, March 29, according to an email from Superintendent Dr. James Gay. The school district has all their updates related to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak online.

School will remain in session at least until the end of the week. On Friday, March 13 there will be an e-learning training day during the school day to help students prepare for the possibility of e-learning days being held in the near future school school need to be canceled for any reason.

Teachers, coaches and sponsors will communicate with students involved in all programs directly. District 230 originally said athletic squads will continue to participate in state modifications established by the IHSA, but the IHSA has since canceled all athletic events.

Other events at District 230 buildings could be held or canceled "on a case-by-case basic," Gay said.

Students and staff who have traveled to certain areas of the world should not attend school for 14 calendar days after the return date. These areas include China, South Korea, Italy and Iran and could grow in number shortly.
