Filing For Suburban Cook School Board Seats Starts Monday
South suburban school board candidates can file Monday, Dec. 12, at the Orland Park Civic Center and other locations through Dec. 19.
COOK COUNTY, IL — Filing will begin Monday, Dec. 12, for more than 700 candidates from 145 suburban school districts to run for seats on local school boards in suburban Cook County as well as other local officers in the upcoming April 2023 consolidated election.
Suburban school board candidates have between Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 to place their names on the 2023 ballot for the April 4 election. On Monday, the Cook County Clerk’s Office will conduct candidate filings in Orland Park and Mount Prospect. Regardless of the location where candidates file their paperwork, all candidates who are in line before 8 a.m. Monday will have their papers time-stamped and entered into a lottery to win top placement on the ballot.
Anyone who files between 8:01 a.m. Dec. 12 and 3:59 p.m. Dec. 19, will be on the ballot in the order in which they turned in their nomination paperwork.

Candidates for the same office who file between 4 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 19, the last day of filing, will also be included in a ballot lottery for the last spot on the ballot.
Filing for school board candidates will also take place at the Cook County Clerk’s downtown Chicago office, and the Elections Operations Center in Cicero. Information about how to file to be a school board candidate can be found on the clerk’s website.

Candidates running for other local offices besides school boards, such as towns, villages, townships, library districts, college districts, fire protection districts, and park boards, must file candidate paperwork with the municipality in which they are seeking election.
The locations, dates, and times for school board filings are as follows:

Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 19: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
