Gary, IN, Woman Accused of Buying Drones with Fake Credit Card: Cops

Card had woman's own name, but it led to another account, cops say.

A Gary, IN, woman is charged with identity theft and possession of a counterfeit credit card after she tried to purchase two drones at an Orland Park hobby shop, prosecutors said in court on Wednesday.

Employees at Hobby Town USA, 15551 S 94th Ave, Orland Park, said that a man called the store to ask if two drones he had purchased online were in stock at the store on September 7.

Moments later, Jakiya Buford, 22, arrived at the store and tried to pay for the drones with a credit card, prosecutors said.

According to the charges, clerks grew suspicious when Buford presented a card that matched the number on the online purchase. The card had her name on it, but it led to another person’s account.

Bail was set at $15,000. Buford’s next court appearance is October 2.
