Get Out: Your Weekend Planner for Nightlife, Family, Sports, Charitable Events and Arts

Why stay home when there is so much happening in the area? Patch's entertainment guide will give you plenty of reasons to "get out" this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and bars, restaurants and shops to explore.

Sports & Recreation


May 7, 8am | Run or walk the “Spring in Your Step” 5K at Moraine Valley Community College. Participants in this free 3.1-mile event will be traversing the walking path encircling the campus or (weather permitting) the Moraine Valley’s nature preserve cross-country course. Top female and male finishers in both the run and walk with receive a prize. Pick up registration forms in the Fitness Center in Building G. Same day registration is also permitted.

Charitable Events


May 6, 6pm – 10pm |
Pamper yourself with onsite spa treatments, 40 vendors from which to shop and a cash bar at the "Ladies Night Out" event. A $3 admission covers the cost of appetizers and a raffle ticket. One-hundred percent of the profits go to the Tox Box Connection, which provides toys to children who need some joy in their lives. There will also be a book drive that day. Please bring any children's books you would like to donate.

Say "I love you" this Mother's Day with flowers from the Spring Flower Sale. This annual church fundraiser offers a wide variety of flower flats, vegetables, herbs, specialty flowers and hanging baskets.

Looking for something new to do with your kids on Friday nights? The Tinley Park Public Library is beginning a series known as iFun Fridays. The program is designed specifically for second and third grade children. There will be Series-ous Fun Games and other themed activities. The theme will change monthly. This month’s activities are on the "My Weirder School" series. Register for this event on the library website.

Arts Alive Children's Theatre

"Oh, the think's you can think when you think about Seuss!" Join the student actors at Oak Forest High School as they travel through the stories of Dr. Seuss. Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, this story follows Horton the Elephant as he protects the speck of dust containing the Jojo and the Whos from the rest of the Seuss characters, all the while followed by his secret crush - Gertrude McFuzz. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students and seniors.


May 5 - 7, 7:30pm – 10pm |
Let the players at Trinity Christian College show you why "the course of true love never did run smooth" in this tangled love square of a tale. Watch the mischievous Puck flit between the world of the fairies and the confused teens of the Athenian court. This classic tale of love, jealousy, mistaken identities and practical jokes is perfect for date-night.

Nightlife


May 6, 9pm – 1am | With his rhythm guitar and harmonica, Little Johnny plays a blend of original music and covers classic rock & blues. Enjoy a drink from the large selection of bottle and beer options, sip a cordial and enjoy some key lime pie or a burger. There is no cover.
