Is Gov. Rauner Considering Tax Increases?

During a speech at the University of Chicago last week, Gov. Bruce Rauner talked about Illinois’ “out of control” budget and how the state’s usual approach to taxation and spending must change.

While Rauner seems to have left the door open to revenue increases, he made clear that won’t happen until deep and drastic spending cuts are made.

Rauner singled out two items in particular that likely will wind up on his chopping block soon, one of which would undoubtedly set the stage for a bitter showdown with state workers and unions in the coming months.
