Hands-On Healing of Ailments

A new massage business in Orland Park focuses on ways to help everyone, not just the affluent.

Rosalind Agee and her staff heal people with their hands.

No, we are not talking about some new age rigmarole.  Agee, the owner of in Orland Park, helps eradicate various types of pain and eases ailments by the art of therapeutic massage.

Agee says we need to expand our view of massage.

“It used to be that people with more disposable incomes got massages regularly to relax and pamper themselves,” Agee noted.  Massages should instead be part of a consistent wellness regimen to help people stay stress-free and avoid other health issues, she believes.

While massages do help relieve achy muscles and ease issues such as chronic back pain, a therapeutic massage, when done regularly, can help with many medical conditions.

Agee, for example, suffers from high blood pressure.  During a long career in the advertising industry, Agee found herself constantly living in a state of stress and anxiety.  Spa massages seemed to be the answer to help her relax and cope with her stress.

“I found that not only did I feel much better, my blood pressure actually lowered as well,” Agee said.  “Massage helps promote blood flow and relieves tension and anxiety.”

Agee noted that regular massage therapy can help with depression, reduce migraine headaches, aid in weight loss, and relieve arthritic joints.  Massage promotes increased blood flow, increases range of motion in joints, releases toxins, breaks down knots in fascia tissue, and even helps release endorphins.

Scientific research backs this up.  Participants in a large systematic study showed a significant increase in lymphocytes, small white blood cells that play a major role in our body’s immune system, immediately after receiving just one 45 minute Swedish massage, according to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center study.  Levels of Cortisol, a stress hormone, also decreased.

Many of Elements’ pregnant clients also find massage therapy to be a welcome relief.  Think of the relief of having your lower back and feet massaged to ease the pain and stress from carrying the baby.

“We have massage therapists at Elements who are certified and licensed in prenatal massage – some are even clinical nurses,” Agee explained.

Elements has a variety of payment packages available.  Agee recommends the Wellness Program, which is a membership program.  With a flat monthly fee, members are entitled to discounted rates and gift certificates on services, as well as other benefits.

They also offer packages as well as single session fees.  Specials are also offered monthly on their Website.

Agee believes that with the cost of health care nowadays, regular massage therapy is no longer a luxury for most people.

“It’s an affordable necessity to staying healthy,” says Agee.  “At Elements, we blend a clinical focus to our therapy with relaxation.”
