ID Thief Pawns Jewelry Purchased With Stolen Credit Card: Cops

Prosecutor said woman purchased thousands of dollars worth of Jewelry at JC Penney using a stolen ID and pawned it for fraction of value.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- A Harvey woman used a fraudulent credit card to purchase jewelry at Orland Square and then pawned it, prosecutors said. LaTasha Reid, 36, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of identity theft.

According to the charges, Reid went to JC Penney around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 20, where she purchased a bracelet, earrings and a ring totalling $4,639. The prosecutor said she took the jewelry and pawned it at a local pawn shop, where she received $525.

Reid went back to the store a few days later where she allegedly used the same credit card to buy $1,398 worth of clothing. The prosecutor said the information on the credit card and Reid’s ID did not match, so the sale was declined. The cardholder soon received credit cards with Reid’s name on them, who had allegedly added herself on the account as an authorized user.

Bail was set at $30,000. Reid is due back in court Oct. 2 in Bridgeview.
