A LITTLE ABOUT THE DAKOTA PARTNERSHIP MINISTRY

The Dakota Partnership was formed and incorporated in 1993. Its primary mission is to enhance and enable Christian values in the Native American communities located in North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. It does so through an ongoing outreach that assists churches, individuals, and the Dakota Presbytery. Our actions are to help restore hope, encourage healthy values, promote responsible behaviors, and enhance worship experience through education, hands on training, and continual fellowship and support.

Although there are two mission trip opportunities to either Sisseton S. Dakota or Fort Peck, Montana, we as a church have become involved in The South Dakota Mission Trip led by Knox Presbyterian, Naperville. Knox is joined by Church of Cross-Hoffman Estates, Faith United-Tinley Park, First Presbyterian-Glen Ellyn, First Presbyterian-Arlington Heights, Pullman-Chicago and our church, PCOP- Orland Park. We found the mission week to be well organized with many experienced volunteers that made the week enjoyable and successful for all ages.

The South Dakota Mission Trip is intergenerational and family-friendly. We partner with the Family Life, Assembly of God Church in Sisseton who maintains a year-round relationship with the Native American communities. During the week long mission trip we utilize their wonderful community center, kitchen and church facilities and interact with more then 300 children and their families. We learn about the four Native American Presbyterian churches located on the nearby reservations and we work with 100 plus volunteers from the Chicago partnership churches. We serve as cooks, kitchen assistants, bible school teachers, game leaders, musicians, van drivers, construction crew members, pool attendants, arts & craft leads, coaches, and counselors. Our children help were they can and interact and attend activities with the Native American children.

Accommodations are in basic motels in Sisseton or at the campground if you are a camper. Costs include all your meals and are reasonable per person and more reasonable as a family sharing the same lodging. Transportation to and from Sisseton is at your own expense and allows you to drive yourself, share a ride or go out in a van from one of the partner churches.

We hope you will consider joining us this 2016 summer. Come see the beautiful countryside, meet and learn about their culture and the challenges the Native Americans face, share your spirit and compassion, fall asleep each night tired

but feeling like you made a difference.
