Interested in Starting a Business? GSU Offers Help

In the next two weeks, GSU is conducting special workshops around the Southland to help local entrepreneurs get started.

CenterPoint at is sponsoring four "Starting a Business in Illinois" workshops for Southland residents.

The free two-hour workshops focus on the personal, financial and legal aspects of starting a business. Participants will learn what steps to take and what resources are available to assist new business owners succeed in today’s challenging economic climate.

CenterPoint at Governors State University is an Illinois Small Business Development Center offering professional assistance, counseling, relevant training, and ongoing support services to entrepreneurs.

Workshops will be presented:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m., at Markham City Hall, 16313 South Kedzie Parkway, Markham. Elliott Johnson, regional representative for GSU CenterPoint, will present the program, which is sponsored by the City of Markham.
  • Thursday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m., at Lemont Village Hall, 418 Main Street, Lemont. Judi Mack, regional representative for GSU CenterPoint, will present the program, sponsored by the Village of Lemont.
  • Monday, Dec. 5, at 5:30 p.m., at Old Plank Trail Bank, 20901 S. LaGrange Road, Frankfort. Judi Mack will present the program, sponsored by Old Plank Trail Bank.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., at Markham City Hall. Elliott Johnson will present the program, sponsored by the City of Markham.
