Island Lake DLG Foundation and Treasure Chest Foundation Unite to Deliver Smiles to Kids Fighting Cancer

(l-r) DLG Foundation Founder, Allison de la Garza, with friends Renee Tabor and Roy Crews at the Treasure Chest Foundation in Orland Park.

The Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF) recently received a donation of toys thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of the DLG Foundation.

DLG Foundation’s mission is to keep the unconditional love and beautiful spirit of beloved Jason de la Garza alive. The DLG Foundation was started to keep the memory of Jason alive.

The DLG Foundation recently held an event at the Stardust Bowl in Addison, IL. There were several toys donated and de la Garza saw it only fitting to donate to POTCF. “Jason was a big kid who passed away in February. He had a kind and generous soul and he would have loved that we did this in his memory. A big kid himself, this jovial spirit loved helping others and serving kids. We won’t say he died of cancer, because we won’t give it that power,” said Jason’s wife, Allison, Founder of the DLG Foundation.

The not-for-profit Treasure Chest Foundation now supports more than 9,300 children and teens each month who are diagnosed with cancer by providing a toy or gift card in 49 hospitals nationwide. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. CEO Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Colleen discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain. Martin celebrated his 22nd anniversary of remission from the disease earlier this year.
