Jerling Jr High student Ainslee Beaty has published a book! The article below was written by Emme Ko, who interviewed Beaty for the Jerling Tribune, Jerling Jr High's school newspaper.

“My 5th grade teacher is actually the first teacher who gave us free writing in the poetry sense. Basically, we just had to make a nature poem, and I have loved writing poetry ever since,” that’s how Ainslee’s Beaty’s path to become a poetry author began. Ainslee, whom you might know as the President of NJHS or a distinguished soccer player, is now a published author! Ainslee’s first book of poetry, “Words From The Heart,” is currently for sale on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Becoming a published author was like a dream for Ainslee as she never thought she would become a published author. Ainslee says, “My mom has wanted me to publish since the summer before 6th grade, but I never thought I’d actually do it until I saw an ad on Instagram for a self publishing website. Then I just ran with it.”

Ainslee admits, not only do people like her family and friends inspire her, but she also takes inspiration from objects throughout her life she has seen. Take her poem, “Cicadas” for example. This poem is one of her most fan loved acrostic poem about what seems like such a simple topic but one which many can find relatable, especially after their influx last summer!

Mr. Gonnella, Ainslee’s 8th grade math teacher explains, “Her book is very impressive and well done. My favorite poem is Beatrix and Dogs,” and expresses how proud he is that Ainslee was able to publish her own work! Mr. Reif, Ainslee’s ELA and Social Studies teacher adds, “Ainslee is a gem to learning who is a beaming example of “hard work pays off!” Her work in publishing her book shows her thoughtfulness, eagerness, and general “good-natureness” -and it’s inspiring.” Reif also states that it is a must read, and is happy he gets to say, “I know her!” Reif points out, “I couldn’t be more proud of Ainslee, and to have the privilege to have her in my classroom. She is the best!”

Ainslee is glad with how everything turned out and notes, “I’m thankful for all the wonderful people in my life. For my parents and their constant support, my family and teachers for buying books and their congratulations, and for my friends for being my free advertising team (that I really should pay.)” These words mirror her true feelings and gratitude to the people surrounding her-and that is just who Ainslee is. We can’t wait to read more Words From [her] Heart!
