Jerling Students Raise Thousands for St. Baldrick's Foundation
St. Baldrick's Day event brings in more than $13,000 to fight childhood cancers.
ORLAND PARK, IL - The students at Jerling High School in Orland Park raised more than $13,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation during a St. Patrick's Day fundraiser in which 25 people had their heads shaved to support the St. Baldrick's Day cause of finding a cure for childhood cancers.
The school raised $13,683 in connection with the event on an original goal of only $5,000, according to a school press release. The school's top fundraiser - seventh grader Kylie Sloan - was the only female to have her head shaved and was given the opportunity to shave the head of Principal Kevin Brown during the event at school on Friday.
"Mr. Brown and I are so appreciative of our Jerling community for supporting such an important foundation which helps research and find cures for childhood cancer," Stacy Westin, Jerling assistant principal, said. "It was such an inspiration seeing our students, staff, parents, and community members take part in Jerling's first ever St. Baldrick's event and raise awareness for such a worthy cause. We couldn't be more proud!"
