Michelle Stanley has been living, working and teaching in Orland Park for almost 30 years and now has opened PrairieArt Studio to help expand the creative arts offerings in the Southwest suburbs. PrairieArt Studio is tucked in a serene and quiet corner of Orland Park and offers painting and drawing classes in a welcoming and non-competitive atmosphere.

“I love to help students discover the joy of creating art,” said owner/instructor Michelle Stanley, “and learning to draw enhances so many other areas of focus and learning.

“My studio has always been a sanctuary for me, and I am so excited to be able to offer classes here surrounded by nature, providing a low key, creative atmosphere. In addition to painting and drawing, I also look forward to expanding our offerings in the near future to ceramics, mosaics and preschool classes among others.”

Classes offered at PrairieArt are based on the internationally renowned Monart Method of drawing developed by artist and author Mona Brookes. Stanley is one of only a few teachers in the area trained and certified by Mona to teach this highly effective method which is based on the premise that “everyone can learn to draw”, whether they are 4 years old or 40 and over.

“I first read Mona Brookes’ book, Drawing with Children, 20 years ago and it really changed my thinking about drawing ability. It was such an incredible experience to do the Internship in Berkeley, California with Mona, her insight is incredible and her energy and enthusiasm are contagious,” said Stanley. “I have loved to draw since I was young but learning this method has given me the tools to help students from beginners to those with very good drawing skills, bring their abilities to the next level. It provides enough structure for success yet allows for the development of individual creative style.”

Classes at PrairieArt are small, progressive, affordable, and allow for individualized attention based on the student’s ability. Learn more and register for classes at www.prairieartstudio.org.
