Mailing and Due Dates for First Installment Property Tax Bills Extended by One Month
This year, property tax bills will be mailed in early March and will be due on April 1.

Orland Township, IL — Orland Township Assessor Antonio Rubino announced that the mailing and due dates for 2025 first installment Cook County property tax bills have been extended by one month under recently enacted state legislation.
Ordinarily, first installment tax bills are mailed around February 1 and are due on March 1. This year, however, the bills will be mailed in early March and will be due on April 1.
The Illinois General Assembly approved this one-time extension to provide taxpayers with additional time between property tax payments. The extension was necessary because the 2024 second installment tax bills, which are normally due on August 1, were delayed until December 15, 2025, due to ongoing issues related to Cook County’s new computer system.

Without legislative action, taxpayers would have faced less than two and a half months between installment due dates, creating a significant financial burden for many households.
"The Orland Township Assessor’s Office, along with assessors from across Cook County through the Cook County Township Assessors Association, strongly advocated for this extension to protect taxpayers,” said Assessor Rubino. “We were concerned that the compressed payment schedule would have caused unnecessary hardship.”

While township assessors worked with members of the Illinois State Senate, officials from Cook County agencies simultaneously engaged with members of the Illinois House of Representatives to address the issue.
On the final day of the legislature’s fall veto session, lawmakers worked late into the night. At 3:30 a.m., both chambers unanimously approved the one-month extension for first installment property tax bills.
