Man, 20, Charged In Attempted Armed Robbery At Orland Park Gas Station: PD

ORLAND PARK, IL — A 20-year-old Indiana man has been charged in an attempted armed robbery that led to his intended victim shooting him outside an Orland Park gas station, police said Wednesday evening.

On Sept. 15, at approximately 9 a.m., the Orland Park Police Department responded to the Shell gas station, 15100 Harlem Ave., after receiving 911 calls reporting gunshots fired in the parking lot. As officers and investigators responded to the scene, police said a witness called 911 to report a man in the area of 15100 73rd Ave. who had suffered a gunshot wound to the cheek.

Police identified the man as Christopher Brown of Indiana.

The Orland Fire Protection District was immediately dispatched to that location to begin treatment.

Police said officers responded to both locations, interviewed witnesses and reviewed security camera footage from the Shell gas station and surrounding area. Within minutes of the initial 911 call, officials say officers and investigators determined that everyone involved in the shooting had been located and that there was no further threat to the public.

After reviewing security camera footage and conducting preliminary interviews, police said investigators confirmed that a man was spumping gas when Brown, who was fully masked, approached and pointed a gun at him, demanding property.

According to police, the customer—an Illinois Concealed Carry License holder—discharged his gun, striking Brown once in the cheek. Brown ran from the parking lot, ultimately stopping in the parking lot where officers found him. The man who fired the handgun was not injured.

Police said investigators learned that the vehicle Brown drove to the gas station and the firearm he possessed were both reported stolen from Michigan City, Indiana.

The Orland Fire Protection District transported Brown by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, where he remains in stable condition. Brown has remained under officers’ guard since the incident. According to poy, investigators conducted more extensive interviews with parties involved, as well as numerous witnesses.

The Cook County State’s Attorney approved felony charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (under 21), and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon/no FOID, Concealed Carry license.
