ORLAND PARK, IL — A 26-year-old man has been charged after police said he attacked officers on the scene of a domestic disturbance Sunday.

On April 12, Orland Park police responded to the 8600 block of 142nd Place for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Officers at the scene encountered Daniel Schmidt, who police say was non-compliant. During the incident, Schmidt attacked the officers and resisted as they attempted to take him into custody, police said Monday.

As a result of the incident, two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Northwestern Palos Community Hospital for treatment. One was treated and released shortly after; the other, police said, was still being treated as of Sunday night. As of Monday afternoon, police said the second officer has also been released.

Schmidt was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and one count of aggravated resisting arrest.

Schmidt is the same man who, in 2024, was charged after punching an election judge in the face during early voting in Orland Township. He was charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery to a victim over 60, two counts of felony aggravated battery in a public place, five misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

In that case, he pleaded guilty to a downgraded misdemeanor charge of battery/cause bodily harm, and other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years of probation set to expire in September 2027, according to court records. He was also ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, and undergo a mental health evaluation and treatment recommendations.

On the recent charges, Schmidt appeared at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Monday, where the Cook County State's Attorney filed a petition of violation of supervision. The case was continued.
