The individual later returned to the parking lot, used keys to unlock and enter the vehicle, and was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses identified the individual as the same person who had arrived in and parked the vehicle at that location earlier in the day, police said.
During the investigation, officers found the individual in possession of a stolen Illinois license plate registered to a 2006 Audi, along with hardware commonly used to affix license plates, police said. Further investigation determined the Rolls-Royce had been stolen while in transit during shipment from Texas to North Carolina.
