Man Charged In Father's Murder Wants Private Attorney, Remains In Custody: Prosecutor

ORLAND PARK, IL — A man charged in the slaying of his 77-year-old father has asked for more time to retain a private attorney, according to court records.
Ibrahim Kassem, 46, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his father, Samir Kassem. The elder Kassem was found dead from multiple injuries in an assault April 29. His son was quickly identified as a suspect and taken into custody, police said Friday.
Ibrahim Kassem's initial court appearance was scheduled for Saturday morning, but he requested more time to retain a private attorney. Cook County Judge Linzey Jones granted a continuance, but ordered Kassem to remain in custody. The detention hearing was rescheduled for Monday, May 4.

Samir Kassem, 77, was found dead inside his home in the 14100 block of Concord Drive Wednesday evening, police said. He died of multiple injuries from an assault and his death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

During the initial investigation, police quickly identified his son as a person of interest. Ibrahim Kassem was located and taken into custody without incident the next day.
