Judge orders man to take bipolar medications as a special condition of bond.

A 28-year-old man was arrested after he stole several items from the same area in Orland Park, prosecutors said in court Wednesday.

Gens Vayalil appeared before Judge Peter Felice on a felony theft charge during a bond court hearing.

Prosecutors said Vayalil swiped three large garden pots each valued at $370 off a front porch. He was arrested for the theft on August 18.

Vayalil is also facing several misdemeanor theft charges, where he is accused of stealing 13 clothing items and a pair of large landscaping items. Prosecutors said it was not clear if the items were taken from stores or residences.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Vayalil is under the care of a psychiatrist for bipolar issues.

“I believe this stems from him not taking his medication,” the assistant public defender said.

Prosecutors said that Vayalil has no previous arrest record.

Bail was set at $5,000, with ten percent to apply.

“As a special condition of bond, you need to take your meds,” Judge Felice said.

Vayalil is due back in court on Sept. 29.
