Marian Catholic High School Presents “Hairspray”

The stage is set in Monsignor Croarkin Auditorium at Marian Catholic for the school’s spring production of “Hairspray.”

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, “Hairspray” tells the engaging story of the lovable plus-size teen with a big heart, Tracy Turnblad, who has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do! “Hairspray” continues to be one of the most widely produced musicals today, not only because of its wit and charm, but also because of the beautiful message of acceptance and progress that it portrays.

The winner of eight Tony awards including Best Musical in 2003, “Hairspray” features delightful melodies such as “Good Morning Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” The charismatic cast of 40 includes leads Jacey Carlsonˈ18 (Country Club Hills) as Tracy Turnblad, Michael O’Sheaˈ18 (Tinley Park) as Edna, Tommy McDermottˈ18 (Hammond) as Link Larkin, Reniyah Jackson-Curtisˈ18 (Saulk Village) as Miss Motormouth Maybelle, Jarrin Comerˈ18 (Matteson) as Seeweed, and Fiona Keatingˈ20 (Flossmoor) as Penny Pingleton.

Marian Catholic’s staging of “Hairspray” is directed by Tiffany Albers-Lopez, with the assistance of Claire Jakubisin, Choral Director, Greg Bimm, Director of Bands, and Sam Sullivan, producer.

Performances of the entertaining musical will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. Tickets are $5 for students, $9 for seniors, and $10 for adults.
