The Most Valuable Card in Your Wallet: Your Library Card

Residents can show their library card at the library to pick up a coupon booklet that gets them discounts all around town.

This month, library card holders in Orland Park can show their library card at the library to pick up a coupon booklet that gets them discounts all around town, reminding residents that a library card is truly the most valuable card in your wallet. The library’s community partners include Hobby Town, B Stunning Salon, Wetzel’s Pretzels, Joey’s Red Hots, Hawaii Fluid Art, Robeks, Stan’s Donuts, Clean Eatz, TruGurt, Giordano’s and Orland Park Nutrition.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Orland Park Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card. From borrowing books, ebooks, and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy. All without stretching one’s budget.

Interested in trying a new hobby? The library can help. Thinking about starting or growing a small business? Orland Park Public Library offers databases for job hunting and resume creation. There’s something for everyone at Orland Park Public Library and signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning for students. Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

The library has a mix of programs available for library patrons during September including a Fall Soup Cooking Demo on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., an Origami Maple Leaves Make and Take craft for adults on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m., and a course in Public Speaking on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. Those interested can register to attend these programs on the library’s online calendar at orlandpark.librarycalendar.com.
