Hotel Guest Dies after Soaking in Hot Tub

The 54-year-old Chicago woman was having trouble breathing when her boyfriend called 911.

A 54-year-old Chicago woman died Wednesday after her boyfriend called 911 to report she was having trouble breathing while in a hot tub in their hotel room.

Orland Park police were called Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. to Essence Suites, 14455 South La Grange Road. They arrived to find the woman inside the hot tub, which had been drained. The woman—whose identity is being withheld at this time—was declared dead at the scene.

The woman had pre-existing “serious medical issues,” according to Orland Park Police Commander John Keating, of which her 52-year-old boyfriend and family were aware. Police opened a death investigation, interviewed others present at the hotel and searched the room for any indication of foul play, finding none, Keating said. An autopsy later found no water in her lungs, indicating she had not drowned.
