National Bridal Sale Day Event Debuts Saturday

Attention all brides-to-be: if you’re looking for a wedding gown for your big day, lace up your running shoes and head to the first-ever National Bridal Sale Day on Saturday, July 16.

More than 700 independently-owned local bridal retailers across the United States and Canada have banded together to offer brides, bridesmaids and wedding guests deep savings on gowns, dresses and accessories in the national day-long sales event. Some salons are offering discounts of up to 80 percent.

The bridal industry hopes to turn the third Saturday in July into a sales holiday the way Black Friday and Small Business Saturday is for retailers.

“Brides don’t have to shop the Internet for price,” says event creator, Sue Maslowski, owner of Jay West Bridal in Haddonfield, NJ. “They can walk into any participating bridal salon across the country on that day and touch, see and feel what they are purchasing with no surprises.”

For Bliss Boutique in Mokena, which has been open for about a year, the bridal industry’s Black Saturday event is a chance to showcase the salon’s mother-of-the-bride-or-groom dresses. The boutique carries a wide selection of special occasion dresses, with a large selection of stylish plus-sized dresses.

“We’re here for women of any age or size,” said owner Jackie Hoffman. “We carry dresses size 00 to 36. All day long women come in and they’re disheartened after being at 11 stores. They can’t believe the choices. We’re just so excited about the national sale.”

Eva’s Bridal International in Orland Park is making a day of the event, offering wine, cheese and prizes throughout Saturday.
