Nick Fotopoulos Named Head Girls Basketball Coach at Carl Sandburg

Carl Sandburg High School Principal Deb Baker announced Nick Fotopoulos as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach for the Eagles. Fotopoulos, a current Sandburg ELL and History teacher and coach, has been with District 230 for the past five years. Coach Fotopoulos has coached primarily boys basketball during his tenure at Sandburg. He also coaches baseball and girls track and field.
“Nick has the commitment, work ethic and passion to continue to strengthen the girls program here at Sandburg” said Sandburg Athletic Director Mark Krusz. “He is committed to working with the community to generate even more enthusiasm for girls basketball in the area,” Krusz added.
Coach Fotopoulos graduated locally from Lincoln-Way East High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of St. Francis.

Coach Fotopoulos is looking forward to the challenge of being the girls head coach and is extremely excited for the future of Eagles basketball. “These opportunities are rare and I look forward to working with our returning players, middle schools and the community to generate enthusiasm for girls basketball and make Sandburg Basketball the best that it can be.” “Sandburg has a tradition of excellence with its athletic programs and I am proud to be able to work with these excellent student athletes and coaches.
