Orland District 135 Board President Will Resign

Joe La Margo's duties for the Village of Orland Park conflict with his role as president.

The president of the Orland School District 135 Board will resign Monday, citing as the reason his recent promotion to assistant village manager of Orland Park.

Joe La Margo, 45, has been board president since 2013. He joined the village in 2006 and was elected to the school board in 2009.

It was “always something I was planning on doing,” La Margo told The Chicago Tribune, of his resignation. “It was just a matter of when.”

La Margo postponed his departure to lend his services while the district sorted out woes about its new bus service provider Positive Connections. La Margo said “98 percent” of the problems have been resolved, with the company hiring more drivers and previous provider American Bus Company adding extra routes to ease the burden.

When I ran for the school board originally my intention wasn’t so I could run for higher offices or anything, I ran because I had children in the district, and I didn’t like the direction the district was going in. I believe that I’m leaving the district in a much better position, but I couldn’t have done that without my fellow board members.

—Joe La Margo, to the Chicago Tribune

La Margo, who previously served as Orland Park’s deputy clerk and public information officer, was promoted to the $116,000-a-year assistant manager post in July.
