Orland Fire Crews Save 3 Residents, 2 Dogs, In Dryer-Sparked Fire

Orland Fire Protection District officials said elderly residents were physically disabled and had to be escorted out of the home.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- Firefighters saved three elderly residents and their dogs after a dryer caught on fire inside an Orland Park home on Friday evening. Officials said the fire started in the family dryer. The residents were not injured.

Fire crews responded to a house fire in the 14400 block of Mason Lane just before midnight on Aug. 10. Heavy smoke was billowing out of the sub-basement in the one-and-half-story frame house. Three residents were found inside the home on the first floor, two them elderly residents who are physically disabled and could not leave on their own. Officials said firefighters and Orland Park police escorted all of the residents outside, along with their two dogs. Paramedics evaluated the residents and determined that they were uninjured.

The fire was contained to the sub-basement and there was smoke damage throughout the home. The two elderly residents were taken to a family member’s home by ambulance. Fire departments from Crestwood Tinley Park, Mokena, Lemont and Frankfort assisted at the scene.

Unknown at this time is if the fire started from the lint trap or if something inside the dryer caught on fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
