Orland Firefighter Laid to Rest on Friday

Wes Peak loved being a firefighter and served in Flossmoor, Westmont and Monee before Orland. He died Sunday, Sept. 7, in a car crash.

Friends, family and colleagues of Orland Fire Protection District firefighter Wes Peak gathered at his funeral service Friday at Parkview Christian Church in Orland Park.

The 36-year-old Peotone man, a seven-year veteran of the department, died in a single-car accident on Interstate 57 on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Dave Marsett, Peak’s pastor at Faith Community Church in Peotone, delivered the eulogy: “His brothers said he was not just their brother, but their best friend.”

Peak served in the Flossmoor, Monee and Westmont fire departments before joining the Orland Fire District. Fire Chief Ken Brucki also spoke, saying Peak loved and “embodied every aspect” of the fire service.

Peak is survived by his wife, Melissa, and his son Jaxson; brothers Phillip, Dougland and Andrew; and his parents, William and Linda. He was interred at Peotone Cemetery.
