Orland Homeowner Suffers 2nd-Degree Burns in Townhome Fire

The fire broke out early Saturday morning on Orlan Brook Drive. The fire victim is in the Loyola burn unit.

A man was hospitalized after sustaining injuries in a fire at an Orland Park townhome Saturday morning, according to Orland Fire Protection District officials.

The fire was reported at an eight-unit, two-story townhome at 6:30 a.m., 15829 Orlan Brook Drive. The resident was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for treatment of second degree burns, paramedics and emergency officials reported.

The individual’s status is not available but he was expected to be moved by hospital personnel to the Loyola University Medical Center burn unit for treatment.

One Orland firefighter was treated for exhaustion and smoke inhalation at the scene, Interim Orland Fire Protection District Fire Chief Michael Schofield said Saturday.

Witnesses reported the fire at 6:30 a.m. after seeing smoke billowing from the roof of the complex. Firefighters encountered heavy fire in several second-story units. A box alarm was called for additional manpower and equipment. Multiple lines were deployed to control the fire and a search of the all units was completed. The fire made its way from the upstairs unit to the attic area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The building suffered extensive damage. No other injuries were reported.
